The roots of my family sink deeply into the history of this land…
My father Riccardo, a very popular character on the island, told me about the past, when wells were the core of community life in the ancient part of Salina, the heart of Santa Marina.
Water was not always available and having a larger tank to store it meant to knead and churn out more bread; that’s why wells and furnaces represented, for the quiet island life, both a meeting and a party place.
Mamma Santina, the mother of my father, had the inspiration to turn those large spaces into what would have become the first small hotel of Santa Marina.
It was her example and her great vocation for hospitality, indeed, to instill me the wish to turn the home in which I was raised into a receptive structure of a different kind, with an important human and familiar touch.”
